Right Place, Right Time

I love the show How I Met Your Mother - was watching a repeat the other week and this was the quote at the beginning...

Future Ted: The great moments of your life won't necessarily be the things you do. They'll also be the things that happen to you. Now, I'm not saying you can't take action to affect the outcome of your life. You have to take action. And you will! But never forget, that on any day, you could step out the front door, and your whole life could change forever. You see the Universe has a plan kids; and that plan is always in motion. A butterfly flaps its wings, and it starts to rain. It's a scary thought, but it's also kind of wonderful. All these little parts of the machine constantly working... Making sure that you end up exactly where you're supposed to be.. exactly when you're supposed to be there. The right place. At the right time

Roughly 9 months ago I started my rollercoaster ride with Melanoma.  Every day still brings me some anxiety and I can't honestly say that I have had 1 day go by where I didn't think about Melanoma - but each day has gotten easier.  I've mentioned this in previous posts, it wasn't an easy decision to make a job change but something I suppose was drawing me to the NYC area.  Something to put me in the right place at the right time.

I was VERY well taken care of by my medical team at UNC-Chapel Hill but the treatment options for Stage 3 (and even minimal clinical trials for stage 4 patients) - but ending up in the NYC area did give me easier access to Sloan Kettering.  I do believe (as Future Ted mentions) that you need to take action and Sloan was actually the 3rd clinic I ended up at.  I very easily could have stayed with the 2nd one I saw and just stayed with the standard interferon tx.

Just a reminder to be your own best advocate!
